1) SHARPEN YOUR BRAIN AND BOOST YOUR MOOD WITH THIS TEA

I love experimenting with the flavors of herbs and plants right outside my door and rosemary is prolific here on our property. The boys and I have turned the rosemary flavor into a fun summer spritzer with peach but it had never occurred to me to add it to my warm tea until I caught this study on the link between rosemary, mood, and mental clarity....


In one interesting study, both rosemary and lavender had a positive impact on mood but while lavender basically impaired work (*yawn* — lavender is relaxing), rosemary improved mental alertness. I read the article and minutes later handed my son a pair of clippers and asked for two short sprigs of fresh rosemary. I added the rosemary to a ginger tea I was about to brew on my stove top. I was a bit skeptical that the flavor would be good, but it was quite good. Experimenting with it over the weeks I have decided that a light hand is important in working with rosemary. I added about twice that amount to my next batch and it was quite bitter. I also like to reuse my herbs in multiple, successive batches of tea, a a strategy that works well for ginger and turmeric tea.


Rosemary is not a good herb for reusing — it does tend to become bitter after the first brew. I still use rosemary in my perpetual tea batches but I leave in the ginger and turmeric (or whatever might be in the pot) and I pull out the rosemary. It is easily done. However, you can also just brew up a quick rosemary tea. It has good flavor alone and is great sweetened with honey.


Rosemary Tea Ingredients:
One quart of water
One two-inch sprig of rosemary or a teaspoon of dried rosemary
Honey to taste Rosemary


Tea Steps: Bring water to a boil. Add rosemary. Cover.
Allow the tea to steep covered for 10-20 minutes. Sweeten with honey to taste....


2) 5 HEALING OILS


Many oils are found in the markets which are natural and chemical free. It is necessary to distinguish between good and bad oils as their use shows impact on your health. Since olden days, many natural oils that are extracted from flowers, plants and animals are used to cure many diseases. Here is the list of natural plant oils that have healing properties.


Olive Oil:


Olive oil is integral part of Mediterranean diet. It has many therapeutic benefits and suggested mostly be cardiologists. Replacing butter and other less healthy fats with olive oil has been shown to aid in the prevention of a myriad of diseases and counter effects of aging. Olive oil benefits are so extensive that it is considered a functional food with components that contribute to its overall therapeutic qualities including a reduction of risk factors of coronary heart disease, the prevention of cancers, and alterations of immune and inflammatory responses.


Coconut Oil:


Coconut oil has many amazing benefits. This includes fat loss, better brain function, maintaining cholesterol levels, stress relaxant, increased immunity and many more. Coconut oil can be used as a skin moisturizer, helping with dry skin and reduces protein loss when used in hair. It also reduces premature signs of ageing and its fatty acids have shown to speed up overall metabolism.


Avocado Oil:


Avocado oil offers a variety of purported nutritional and medicinal benefits that are supported by science. It can be used as a beneficial skin care product, for special scalp treatments, medicinal purposes, and in healthy cooking. Avocado oil is rich in antioxidants, making it useful for healing sun-damaged skin. It is rich with Sterolin which facilitates in softening of skin and if topically applied it helps in reliving dry and itchy skin.


Pumpkin Oil:


Pumpkin seed oil has many positive health effects. It is good source of omega 3 fatty acids and shows favorable effects on LDL Cholesterol. The researchers have found that it significantly helps help improve prostate health due to its high content of Zinc and also help women with menopause as it decrease blood pressure, hot flushes and headaches.


Flax Seed Oil:


Flaxseed is a popular traditional food and remedy for many diseases. It is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega 3 fatty acid and consumption of food in right amount has been shown to improve cardiovascular health. It also helps in preventing hair loss. It shows positive effects on skin, treating arthritis and many other health issues. It has positive effect which may help with symptoms of menopause and lower cholesterol.


3) NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR DANDRUFF

Dandruff is a problem for many people and some of those OTC shampoos and conditioners may contain toxins that you’re not so into.


Dandruff, an evil cousin of dry scalp, is caused by an excess of skin cells that have build up on the scalp and flakes off in thick, white flecks. Our skin, the largest “organ” in the body, is constantly renewing itself which means dead skin cells can get in the way of new skin cells looking to make an appearance.


According to Medical News Today, mild dandruff situations are pretty easy to control, but there are more serious cases that can haunt you forever. According to sources at Livestrong, diet, stress, and hair care regimens are likely causes of dandruff, but extreme temperatures can aggravate your symptoms as well.


With so many dandruff causing factors, it may be hard to pin-point exactly what you can change to ditch those flakes for good. According to the Mayo Clinic, one likely source of dandruff is a fungus that lives on the scalp called malassezia, which intensifies the overproduction of skin cells. The good news is that the earth has given us an abundance of anti-fungal goodies that have additional hair benefits like moisturizing and hydrating dry scalps, removing dead skin cells, and stimulating hair growth. Can your anti-dandruff shampoo do that? 


Now that we’ve gotten causes and symptoms out of the way, let’s get to some awesome DIY dandruff treatments that can keep the flakes off your clothes AND scalp while keeping your all natural routine, completely natural. These recipes below will give your scalp a much needed spring cleaning!  


1. Lavender, Tea Tree Oil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil Treatment


It’s likely that you’ve come across tea tree oil in hair care products before. Tea tree oil is a powerful anti-fungal, antiseptic, and antibacterial natural oil that has worked wonders for dandruff. Lavender tea tree smells way better and lavender is actually listed as one of the best essential oils to treat flaky, dry scalps. According to sources at Livestrong, olive oil can hydrate deep into the scalp to soothe all that flakiness. Use two ounces of extra virgin olive oil and about 15 drops of lavender tea tree essential oil. Store your treatment in a tinted sealable container for future use, I recommend using this treatment before bedtime, massaging into your scalp, and rinsing out in the morning. 


2. Lemon, Yogurt, & Honey Hair Mask


According to Green Medical Info, studies in the European Journal of Medical Journal have confirmed that honey can heal dandruff, which makes this mask from Stylecraze is great for dandruff. Honey is pH balancing and healing, plus also has antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties that a dandruff prone scalp will literally drink up. To make your new mask, use three tablespoons of crude honey, one tablespoon of organic yogurt, and two teaspoons of lemon juice. If you are worried about getting your new mask out of your hair, cut the mask with a carrier oil like argan or jojoba to make it easier to rinse away.


3. Garlic Treatment


Yes, this will be one of the more disgusting-smelling treatments in your DIY hair care, but garlic has very potent anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that can help your dandruff. Garlic also contains salicylic acid, which is a common ingredient in anti-dandruff shampoos to control seborrheic dermatitis, yet another cause of dandruff. With that in mind, who could blame you for using a little garlic? Sources at Healing With Food claim that eating raw garlic cloves can also cure dandruff, but a garlic oil treatment may help you out as well — and the smelly hair is only temporary. Heat peeled garlic gloves and argan oil over a stove-top with a low flame. I recommend diluting your garlic oil even further before applying directly on your scalp with another tablespoon of argan oil to avoid any irritation.
