I’ve talked a lot about the importance of maintaining a healthy gut. Your gut is where your immune system starts and many studies indicate illnesses–everything from weight gain right down to depression–can actually start in the gut.


All kinds of bacteria live in your gut—good and bad—but the “friendly” kind actually helps keep the “unfriendly” population in check. Many modern diets tend to be high in things that aren’t exactly great for gut health. Sugar, for example, is one of the worst offenders, causing harmful bacteria to proliferate in the intestines. We all know that people today consume far much sugar than necessary (actually, refined sugar consumption–no matter the amount–is unnecessary). And when bad bacteria grows too large in number…well, there’s cause for concern.


How to Support Your Gut Health


The very obvious supplement for supporting your gut is a good probiotic. You’ve likely heard of probiotics; these are friendly bacteria that can help with your digestion. Science has just begun to scratch the surface of the benefits of probiotics but more and more studies suggest definite health perks. But there are also other things you can take to support gut health. Here are 3 more great supplements you should check out.


1. Enzymes


Digestive enzymes help break the food you eat into smaller molecules. This helps you get the nutrients and can even help with food sensitivities. For example, someone who is lactose intolerant would have a hard time digesting milk sugar. That person could take the enzyme lactase, and eating dairy might become a little easier. But enzymes do a lot more than just help digest food! Some studies suggest proteolytic enzymes can actually reduce irritation in the body.


2. Antioxidants


Eating antioxidant-rich foods or taking antioxidant supplements are two easy ways to support gut health by reducing gut irritation. One report suggests antioxidant vitamins C and E could even relieve the symptoms of Crohn’s Disease. Blueberries, red berries, nuts, and dark green vegetables are just some of the antioxidant-rich foods you could introduce into your diet.


3. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar


Raw apple cider vinegar, as with all these supplements for gut health, provides beneficial enzymes that may be helpful for digestion. By taking the vinegar, you’re also making conditions friendlier for all those good bacteria. But, remember, in order to get the full effect, you need to make sure that you are using raw apple cider vinegar.


There are so many easy ways that you can support and maintain your gut health. Whether it’s eating healthy, taking probiotics, or even meditation. Cutting out gluten and sugar are also helpful steps you can take to support the health of your gut, and consuming more raw, living foods is also great measures.

2) NATURE REMEDIES: FLOWER ESSENCE THERAPY

Flower essences are the blossoms of plants prepared from a sun infusion in a bowl of water, then further diluted, potentized, and then preserved with brandy.


These preparations embody the distinct imprint, or energetic pattern of each flower species. In holistic healing flower essence therapy is categorized under vibrational medicine. Vibrational medicine incorporates the use of chi energies within living organisms such as plants, gemstones and crystals, water, sunlight, and even the foods we eat.


Flower Essence Therapy Origins


The founder of flower essence therapy was an English surgeon named Dr. Edward Bach. Dr Bach was a pioneer in understanding the connection of our emotional bodies to our physical health. The 38 original flower remedies, known as Bach Healing Herbs were used to treat the underlying emotional causes of diseases.


Ill health (physical imbalances and dis-eases) results when we are in imbalance or when we lose our awareness, are disassociated from others, or disconnected from our life purpose. The living forces of nature collected from the blooms of our flowering plants, prepared, and placed in liquid stock. and dosage bottles are used in healing our physical, etheric, astral, and spiritual bodies.


How Flower Essences Are Applied


Flower essences enjoy a reputation of being highly effective and very safe to use. Flower essences, or flower drops as I like to call them, can be taken directly from the stock bottle. A few drops are typically applied under the tongue. Alternately, three to four drops of stock essences are mixed into a liter of purified water that is sipped throughout the day.


Specialized combinations of essences are commonly prepared in one ounce dosage bottles. A dosage bottle will normally last ten to fourteen days.


The medical community is not convinced that there is enough evidence to support the effectiveness of flower essences. This is fair, admittedly, vibrational energy is very difficult to measure by scientific means. Yet, in the holistic community, flower essences are favored by practitioners to address emotional and spiritual imbalances. People suffering from clinical depression or other mental health issues should contact a licensed mental health professional for treatment.


Intuitively Selecting Flower Essences


Selecting essences can in itself be a process of inner growth and awareness. Through quiet reflection, meditation, self observation, and consulting and conversation with others, it is possible to become aware of issues in our lives that demand our attention. These may be related to any area of our lives, our work, our relationships, or our personal selves. I tend to see the flowers visually with my third eye, yet when I cross reference my visuals in my flower essence resource books. I am always amazed at how accurate intuitive-chosen flowers are. Kinesiology testing is another way that people can use to select the appropriate essences for themselves.


Helpful Tips:


Standard dosage for flower essences is four to ten drops under the tongue four times per day.
Potency is increased not by taking more drops at one time, but by increasing the frequency.
You can benefit greatly by consulting an experienced flower essence practitioner.


Although people occasionally notice immediate shifts when taking flower essences, others may experience difficulty perceiving any changes due to the gradual effects flower essences normally take. Taking flower drops over time will build a stronger and stabilizing influence in our relationships, in our attitudes, in our stresses, and in our overall state of well-being. Flower essences are not cure-alls. Flower essences are intended to be our helpers in aligning our life energy toward healthy growth and development.

3) 6 REASONS TO EAT MORE CHIA SEEDS

Although many people often associate chia seeds with the infamous ch-ch-ch-chia pet, their purpose goes beyond a ceramic puppy planter. Chia seeds are powerful little bundles that can offer serious health benefits. Here are 6 reasons to consider adding more chia into your diet.


Nutrient rich. For such a tiny seed, chia packs a mighty punch. They are very high in fiber, high in protein, high in healthy and hard-to-find omega-3 fatty acids, and are even a good source of calcium and phosphorus. That’s in a single, tablespoon serving. All of these nutrients are packed into a lean little powerhouse, making chia an excellent go-to snack when you need energy.


Antioxidants. Due to an incredibly high quantity of phenols, chia seeds have incredible anti-inflammatory properties. A study in Mexico showed that they have the potential to thwart a huge amount of free radical damage. If you’re looking to prevent inflammatory damage like premature skin aging, try adding in some chia.


Improve digestion. With a high amount of fiber, chia promotes regularity and a healthy stool. Its gel-like consistency when soaked can also support the growth of beneficial probiotics in the gut. Your gut bacteria are essential to your health and can even influence your weight and immune system, so it’s important to support them in any way you can.


Fights cancer. Alpha linoleic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in chia, has actually been to limit the growth of cancer cells in both breast and cervical cancers. While the research needs to best hown in studies continued, getting more omega-3s in your diet is generally a beneficial idea, as it also largely aids heart health.


Prevent diabetes. Chia seeds are loaded with fiber and healthy fats, which combine to balance blood sugar levels. However, there have been some fascinating studies demonstrating chia’s ability to prevent metabolic disorders like insulin resistance, perhaps due to its high ALA content. Chia was shown to prevent the onset of insulin resistance in mice fed a sugar-rich diet, and was shown to reverse insulin resistance in mice that had already developed the condition. What a great reason to enjoy some chia!


Improve energy and metabolism. Chia seeds aren’t laden with sugar, but have actually been shown to have the same energizing benefits as a sugar-heavy sports drink. A study published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning showed that chia was as effective as sports drinks for endurance activities lasting over 90 minutes. Although chia may not have a huge impact on shorter workouts, it’s still a smart choice to fuel up pre-workout while improving metabolism and weight maintenance.


Chia seeds boast numerous health benefits. So, what’s a great way to consume chia seeds? Chia pudding, of course! Let 2 tablespoons of chia soak in 2 cups of milk (half coconut, half cashew is a good call) overnight. Chop in freshly diced mango or berries, maple syrup, pecans, and/or some vanilla extract, and enjoy! A delicious, healthy breakfast pudding sure to brighten up any morning.
