1) NATURAL WAYS TO TREAT ALLERGIES

The days grow shorter. The nights grow colder. Schools open their doors. And for about 36 million Americans, these changes signal one unhappy fact: the start of ragweed season. And if it seems that your allergy has become worse in recent years, you may be right. Global warming appears to produce longer, more pollen-filled seasons, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

Allergy shots may help, but if you prefer a natural approach, you can follow these tips from Chinese medicine expert Maoshing Ni, a California practitioner and author of "Secrets of Self-Healing."

"My remedies are very useful in that they do not (only) take care of the symptoms, but also over time try to reprogram the immune system so it won't be so hyperactive," he says.

1) Avoid certain foods: Staying away from dairy and other foods you're sensitive to may make a difference, Ni says. By lowering the overall allergy load that your body must handle, you may decrease the severity of the response to an allergen.

2) Seek out other foods: Papaya and pineapple, for instance, are rich in bromelain, which is a natural antihistamine. You can also take bromelain as a supplement. The herb stinging nettle, available in most health-food stores, may also help lessen allergy symptoms, Ni says.

Ingredients like ginger, scallion, basil, garlic, oregano, cayenne peppers, white pepper, horseradish and turmeric will provide symptom relief by clearing out the nasal passages.

3) Sweet relief: Another way to boost your immunity, Ni says, is to eat locally produced, unfiltered, unprocessed honey or bee pollen (pictured). It's important that the honey or pollen come from a local farm since the bees will have been exposed to the same pollen that bothers you, he says.

Start with a small amount, like a pinch, and slowly work your way up to a heaping teaspoon daily, Ni suggests.

4) Clear your nose: To clear your sinuses, add a few drops of wintergreen oil to boiling water and inhale the steam.

For the nasal passages, add a teaspoon of salt, one drop of oregano oil and one drop wintergreen oil to a cup of warm water. Fill a squeeze bottle that has a small spout, and squirt into the nose, one nostril at a time. Blow out. Repeat daily. Source:indystar.com


2) NATURAL REMEDIES: CAMPHOR

Thanks to this large evergreen tree located in parts of Asia, like Taiwan and Borneo – we can naturally treat a handful of skin ailments.

For instance, to soften the skin during a luxuriating bath, place two cubes of camphor in the water, which is also known to take care of itchy skin.

To soothe sore and tired muscles, camphor liniment can prove helpful.

It also offers great conditioning for the skin.

Camphor also offers relief when insects have bitten your arms and legs during the summertime – causing itchiness and pain to subside.

When you are looking to clear your head a bit, camphor also makes an excellent inhalant.

Some people also use camphor to block out offending odors for a short period of time by dabbing a little bit inside the nose.

3) ANTIOXIDANTS IN DARK CHOCOLATE

Dark chocolate is gaining popularity these days because of its antioxidant content. The darker(more cocoa solids) the more flavonoids it contains.

A research was done comparing the blood pressure levels of dark chocolate eaters and white chocolate eaters. After several weeks, the blood pressure of dark chocolate eaters dropped while the latter maintained its blood pressure.

That's good news as far as blood pressure is concerned but the research was made on a daily intake of a chocolate portion containing only 30 calories. It's roughly one small square of chocolate from a bar. That's the safe amount to bring out the benefits of dark chocolate as far as antioxidants are concerned. Larger servings would elevate the intake of sugars, calories and fats which may not be beneficial for the health.

When choosing a dark chocolate, opt for the one containing at least 70% cocoa solids for it contains more antioxidants. Limit your intake though because the antioxidant benefits may be offset by the effects of high sugar, calorie and fats that chocolate also contains. Source:neutral-izer.blogspot.com
