1) CAN TEA FIGHT CAVITIES?

Tea is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. There are many varieties — black, oolong, pu-erh, green, and white, just to name a few. Each type is processed differently to promote varying colors, tastes, and aromas. It turns out that all tea coming from the Camellia sinensis plant may provide benefits for teeth and gums, much more so than previously thought. It looks like tea’s antioxidant properties, along with other compounds, may be responsible for its beneficial effects on teeth. Could tea be an alternative to fluoride for fighting cavities? Let’s take a closer look.


The Benefits of Tea


Soda consumption is a worldwide problem and it’s directly responsible for cavities and tooth erosion. Not only does an average serving of soda contain roughly 17 teaspoons of refined sugar, it also contains highly erosive citric acid, a preservative compound that is more damaging to the teeth than battery acid. Tea is quite the opposite. In fact, one study looked at the effects of tea on tooth erosion and found it to be similar to water, in other words — no erosive effect. Researchers believe the antioxidants in tea may go further than water, protecting teeth and gums from oxidative damage.


It should be noted that this study was carried out on unsweetened tea. If you’re the type that likes to add sugar, lemon, and/or milk to your tea, you may want to think again. Sugar and acid–regardless of the source–promote tooth decay and the development of cavities. It’s best to stick to hot or iced unsweetened tea you brew at home with loose, organic tea leaves. Be sure to stay away from prepackaged tea, as well, because these usually contain citric acid as a preservative. It may also be wise to drink tea through a straw to minimize staining that occurs alongside long-term tea consumption.


Other Ways to Protect Against Tooth Erosion


One of the best ways to protect against tooth erosion is to avoid sugar and acidic foods. Sugar provides food for harmful bacteria and other compounds that eat away at the enamel, and sugar also encourages gingivitis. Incorporating antioxidant-rich foods into your diet is also a great way to protect your teeth and gums. Drink plenty of water and also ensure you’re also maintaining healthy vitamin D levels. If you are brushing your teeth with store-bought toothpaste, be sure you’re using toothpaste without fluoride, and continue flossing on a daily basis. Oil pulling with an ozonated olive oil is another incredibly easy way to promote oral health.

Kale juice can help reduce the risk of cancer, relieve inflammation, and lower bad cholesterol levels. This green juice is also one of the best things for melting away fats, fast!


Everyone knows that kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables on the planet. People have used all kinds of metaphors to describe just how healthy it is, calling it “the king in the castle of vegetables“, or “the quarterback of the vegetable football team“. Whatever you want to call it, kale is amazing.


Rich with vitamins and minerals, kale can help reduce the risk of cancer, relieve inflammation, and lower bad cholesterol levels. It is a great source of Vitamin B1, B2, C, E and K as well as calcium, copper, iron, and potassium, which all work synergistically to contribute to better bone, brain, skin, and muscle health.


Yet, one of its most amazing and underrated abilities is what it can do for your weight loss!


How Kale Can Help You Lose Weight


Kale is particularly good for helping people lose weight, for a bunch of different reasons.


First of all, kale has a lot of fiber, more than most other vegetables, which helps you fill up and stay full for longer. When you feel hungry during the day, it’s most often caused by your body lacking some essential nutrient. Drinking kale juice is a great way to ensure you don’t lack any nutrients, helping you to control your snacking and keeping you on track throughout the day.


Secondly, all of the minerals and nutrients in kale kick-start your metabolism, which helps your body burn more fat and calories every day. That’s why it’s such a great idea to drink kale juice in the morning!


The best part is that juicing it makes digesting all that goodness even easier, leaving you feeling energized and ready for anything. Maybe even a morning jog?


Green Kale Juice Recipe


I love drinking this green juice in the morning because it keeps me full at least until lunch and I can take it on the go.


1 bunch of kale, 1 cucumber, 2 carrots, 1 bunch of parsley, ½ bunch of chard, ½ bunch of spinach, 2 ribs of celery, 1 lime with peel, Add a few ice cubes.  

For Something Less Bitter


If you find the above recipe a little too far on the bitter side, you can always add fruit to sweeten it. Apples are a common choice because they are once again full of fiber, help control cravings, and can assist with regulating your blood sugar. But whatever fruit you like best would work, from grapes to pineapple.


You can also experiment with lemons instead of limes, or adding ginger. For example, you can try this fruitier option:

 
A Fruitier Kale Juice Recipe


6 big kale leaves, 1 cucumber, 1 green apple, A few chunks of pineapple, A few fresh mint leaves, 1 lime with peel.


Just be sure to not drink too much. Kale can aggravate gallbladder and kidney stones if you have a history of such conditions. You can get too much of a good thing.

3) 3 NATURAL ANTIBIOTICS TO WARD OFF SUPERBUGS


In 1945, Alexander Fleming and two colleagues won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. They were recognized for developing penicillin as a therapeutic drug. Penicillin went on to become one of the first commercially available “antibiotics.”


In the decades that have followed, antibiotics have saved countless lives. These drugs allow doctors (and veterinarians) to easily treat bacterial infections that would have been life-threatening to our ancestors. The development of antibiotics has been a huge benefit to mankind.


But there’s another side to the story…


Unfortunately, these powerful healing tools have been widely abused and misused. Doctors routinely prescribe antibiotics for the most minor infections. Often, they are prescribed even when the patient doesn’t even have a bacterial infection.


And in most cases, doctors don’t even mention that these powerful drugs can also destroy the beneficial microbes that live in your gut. Untold numbers of people have suffered years of digestive and other health problems, as a direct result of the damage to their microbiome from a few rounds of “harmless” antibiotics.


And then you have conventional agriculture, which administers antibiotics to livestock as a matter of course.


But the problems that stem from the overuse of these drugs are not limited to the damage they can cause to our intestinal flora. It has also resulted in powerful and deadly strains of microbes, resistant to all but the most powerful drugs.


You see, prescription antibiotics don’t always kill all bacteria they come in contact with. Some organisms are able to resist the drug. These “renegade” bacteria then multiply rapidly, once the competition has been wiped out. Within mere hours, their numbers increase exponentially.


The result is a new dominant strain of bacteria that is “resistant” to most antibiotics. Some experts call these strains of microbes “superbugs.” And they can spread from person to person, causing illness.


In fact, with every use of a prescription antibiotic there is an opportunity for resistant strains to thrive and become dominant.


The primary reason why prescription antibiotics fail is because they are one-dimensional. For example, penicillin kills bacteria by destroying the cell walls. Streptomycin works by attacking a structure inside the bacteria called the ribosome. Because of the one-dimensional approach of most antibiotics, microbes are able to quickly evolve and circumvent their attacks.


And that’s not all…


In fact, it has been demonstrated that these superbugs can share their secret with other strains of bacteria. This “broadcasting” ripples through the bacterial world and can render useless even the most powerful antibiotics.


This is exactly what happened with the antibiotic vancomycin. It used to be considered the “gold standard” for treating infections from enterococous and staphylococcus. However, within just one year this powerful drug no longer worked against these two bacterial targets.


But Mother Nature’s arsenal of antibiotics works quite differently. Pharmaceutical antibiotics are designed to target a single component, while natural antimicrobials are typically “full-spectrum” in their approach.


Natural antibiotics typically contain dozens of bioactive compounds that provide unique therapeutic effects. Best of all, the myriad of compounds provide complexity that makes it tough for microbes to master a “work around.” Talk about innate wisdom!


Mother Nature’s Multi-Pronged Approach


Today I’m going to share three natural, inexpensive antibiotics you should have on hand at all times. They are best taken in the prodromal phase of an illness. This is the incubation period when you notice the first tickle in your throat, a bit of stuffiness, or just that “run down” feeling you may get before you become ill.


By taking action early, you can beat the bug before it has a chance to take hold.


#1 – Garlic


Garlic has been used as medicine for thousands of years. And for good reason. As a natural antibiotic, garlic destroys a wide variety of pathogens – from H. pylori and the flu… to pneumonia and the dreaded MRSA.


How does it work?


One of garlic’s primary constituents, allicin, breaks down to more than 100 bioactive compounds that interact and combine with one another. As these compounds combine, they form thousands of new therapeutic combinations that microbes can’t easily circumvent. Not only does garlic have direct and immediate action against microbes, but using it can help reduce the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.


What’s more, garlic was recently found to stimulate infection-fighting white blood cells of the immune system called naturals killers (NK).


Eating garlic regularly in its raw form is a great way to keep your immune system in tip-top shape and wipe out bugs before they can take hold. At the first sign of illness, take one to two raw, pressed garlic cloves every few hours. (NOTE: A clove is one of the small pieces that break off and comprise the “head” of garlic. I want to make this distinction as many people think a clove is a head of garlic.) Be sure to have something on your stomach. Raw garlic can cause discomfort. If you take any medication, be sure to talk with your doctor before consuming large quantities of garlic.


# 2 – Olive Leaf


Olive leaf, from the same tree that brings us olives, has a long history of medicinal use, as well. Recent studies show that powerful compounds in olive leaf – including hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein – are effective against a wide variety of bacteria and viruses. They are also potent at combating forms of yeast, mold, fungi and parasites.


Look for olive leaf extract in capsule form.


# 3 – Oil of Oregano


Like garlic and olive leaf, oregano is also powerfully effective against viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. In studies, oil of oregano was found to destroy a variety of some of the nastiest pathogens known to man including E. coli, Giardia, Staphylococcus, Klebsiella, Candida albicans, Campylobacterand more.


Oregano’s most powerful constituents are carvacrol and thymol. But research shows that using oregano in its whole form is far more effective than when the compounds are used in isolation.


Oil of oregano is also a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Be sure to choose wild crafted oil of oregano to get the most benefit.


Staying Healthy… Naturally


Remember, most bugs enter your system through your eyes, nose, and mouth via contact with your hands. Wash your hands with plain soap and water (avoid antibacterial “hand sanitizers” often made with harmful tricolsan) after coming into contact with other people or surfaces (ie – hand railings, other people’s computers, door handles, bathrooms, etc).


When scratchy throats and stuffy noses inevitably strike, reach for one of Mother Nature’s safe yet potent remedies. You won’t just help to keep your family healthy with nontoxic, time-tested remedies; you’ll also do your part to stop antibiotic-resistant superbugs.
