1) JIN SHIN JYUTSU
About a year ago I was reading a blog post that happened to mention Jin Shin Jyutsu.
I wasn’t sure if I’d even heard of it before, but assumed it was something along the lines of Jujitsu or QiGong.
I had already studied and practiced more than my share of energy processes and healing
modalities and wasn’t looking to get involved in something new, but still was curious to find out what Jin Shin Jyutsu actually was.
When I got an e-mail a week later saying there was a new Meet-Up group focused on Jin Shin Jyutsu forming in my area, I thought “Talk about synchronicity and serendipity!”
So I signed up to attend, with the thought of going just a time or two to satisfy my curiosity.
I Was Hooked From The Get-go!
Well, here it is more than a year later and I’m still learning and practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu, and no one is more surprised by this than me.
The fact is, I was hooked from the get-go and it’s my favorite energy process of anything I’ve come across so far.
It turns out Jin Shin Jyutsu, or JSJ as I now call it, originated in Japan like Jujitsu, but is NOT a form of martial arts.
Instead, it is a process that works to keep the physical body’s energy pathways
clear and the energy balanced and flowing.
It works similar to acupuncture, but without needles, pressure or manipulation.
JSJ is empowering to use, and highly regenerative because it speeds up the body’s innate ability to heal and regenerate itself.
It boosts the immune system, relieves stress and pain, and works to restore and maintain energy levels.
It also helps balance and harmonize our thoughts and emotions, and strengthen our connection with Source energy and “higher” consciousness.
Wow, how cool is that?!
What’s Great About JSJ
What’s great about JSJ is it’s interesting and fun, and simple….yet complex.
You can start using it within minutes of learning some of the basics, but could also spend the rest of your life, if you’re so inclined, delving into the depths of all it has to offer.
I love the fact that many of the holds or processes (also referred to
as “flows”) are very easy and quick to learn, so you can begin using them on yourself right away to improve all aspects of your health and well-being.
Plus, you don’t have to adhere to any particular system of thought, it doesn’t interfere with other modalities you may be practicing, and it doesn’t require any special equipment, physical pressure, or massage know-how.
You can use it anytime, anywhere, and it works through clothing, so you can remain fully clothed while doing it.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is all about keeping the body’s energy flowing and in balance…..it can help you feel more energized, but also assist you with falling asleep if/when that’s your goal.
Here in the West, JSJ is referred to as “The Art of Learning To Know (Help) Yourself,” and for me it has really lived up to that title.
By practicing JSJ I have not only learned energy processes that relax and rejuvenate my body better than
anything else I’ve tried, but have also come to know (ah, there’s that word!) myself and appreciate my body and the innate power it holds more than ever before.
It’s really nice to realize that my physical body contains an inexhaustible supply of energy, and that just by helping insure that energy is nurtured and given a chance to move and flow, my health and whole life benefit in a variety of ways.
The Hands Have It
With Jin Shin Jyutsu your hands become these wonderful tools for “jumper-cabling” the energy circuits of the body, and just by knowing where and how to place your hands you can release tensions and energy blockages which are the causes of various symptoms and dis-ease.
When one or more of the energy pathways in the body become blocked, this damming effect can lead to discomfort or even pain.
If this energy stagnation goes unaddressed for too long, it ends up not only disrupting
the local area of the body, but will continue and eventually dis-harmonize the entire path or paths of energy flow.
Fortunately, JSJ is an easy to use self-help tool for ensuring the pathways remain clear and the energy is free-flowing and harmonized.
And you’re working with the body’s own inexhaustible supply of energy, so you’re not having to deal with, or pull in, outside energy.
Mary Burmeister, the woman responsible for bringing JSJ to the US from Japan, said that the only reason we really get tired is mismanagement of the boundless energy source our body contains.
And that if we attuned to the body and did what we could through JSJ to insure that our energy is free-flowing and unobstructed, we would never get tired.
It’s as Simple as 1-2-3!
Learning to use some of the holds or flows in Jin Shin Jyutsu is as simple as 1-2-3.
Well, actually sometime it’s as simple as
1, because a key hold or hand position that can help with all sorts of things involves simply grasping/holding (“jumper-cabling”) the thumb of one hand with the other hand.
Talk about simple!
Did you know that by doing this one little thing you can help balance and harmonize the stomach and the spleen, which is the body’s source of “solar energy” and serves to energize all the other organs?!
Holding your thumb also opens up channels for you to receive nourishment on an inner and outer level, not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
And if you need help falling asleep at night….or getting back to sleep when you wake up too early….just grab your thumb.
This hold also helps dissipate worry, nervousness, stress and tension, so it’s a real godsend of a self-help tool for this day and age!
Maybe this is why babies innately know to suck their thumbs to bring them a sense of
security and peace.
The Benefit of Each Finger
I just mentioned some of the many benefits of holding your thumb(s), but the other digits are no slouches either!
You’ll probably be surprised to learn that our ten fingers are the keys to 144,000 energy functions, and by holding each finger or thumb for just a few minutes a day you help clean and regenerate over 14,000 functions of the body at a time!
What?! I find that totally amazing!
Hold each for 3 to 5 minutes daily and your whole body will experience a wonderful calming, rejuvenating, balancing and harmonizing effect- and it’s cumulative, so the more often you practice JSJ, the more benefit you receive.
The index finger has to do with functions of the muscular and digestive systems, the kidneys, and the bladder; it can help with teeth and gum issues, backaches, and addictions of any kind, as well as with
reducing fear, frustration and mental confusion.
So if you need support with any of those issues, grab that finger and hold!
And the middle finger relates to the blood, liver and gall bladder, and feelings of anger, irritability, indecision or frustration.
It can also help with eye/vision problems and relieve fatigue.
So hold this finger to work on any of these organs/areas of the body and particular mental and emotional stresses.
The ring finger relates to the lungs and respiratory system, as well as the large intestine, and holding this particular finger works to rejuvenate and bring balance to those parts of the body.
It can also be used for ringing in the ears, excess mucus, and to relieve feelings of sadness, grief, negativity, and being stuck or having trouble with letting go.
And last but not least, the little finger, or “pinky,” is connected with functions of the
skeletal system, as well as the heart and small intestine, and can be used to address bone or nerve problems and heart conditions.
On a mental and emotional level, the little finger relates to trying too hard or overdoing, and can help with feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem.
Everyone Should Try It!
There’s actually a lot more to each finger and using Jin Shin Jyutsu than what I’ve mentioned here, and that’s one of the things I love about it.
You can learn just a few basics, like holding your fingers and thumbs, and gain a lot of benefit; at the same time, you could study and practice JSJ for years and always feel there is more to learn and understand.
I’m so enamored with Jin Shin Jyutsu that I think everyone should know about it and give it a try.
And I look forward to sharing several more easy to learn JSJ processes in a future post, including my favorite flow that
is sooo relaxing and works to balance all the energy in the body.
You can do it while lying comfortably in bed, and even fall asleep during the process and still have it be effective.
Maybe Jin Shin Jyutsu should be called the lazy (wo)man’s “art of learning to know (help) yourself.”
I mean really, how many things do you know of where you simply hold a finger…and can even fall asleep in the process, and are still helping everything from assuaging fear to expanding cosmic consciousness?!!

2) WHAT IS ALTERNATE DAY FASTING?

Alternate day fasting (ADF) is a type of
intermittent fasting in which you alternate between “fast days,” when you consume very few or zero calories, and “feed days” when you eat as much as you like. When done correctly, ADF is a powerful tool for weight loss and longevity.
How an Alternate Day Fast Is Done
The basics of alternate day fasting are relatively straightforward. You just eat every other day. On fast days, you water fast or consume other zero-calorie liquids like tea and detox water. On feed days, you can eat whatever you want (within reason).
If zero calories seems like an impossible goal, many experts recommend a modified approach. In the modified form, instead of consuming zero calories on fast days, you consume about 25% of your normal energy requirements. Exact calorie requirements differ from person to person, but if we assume a 2000 calorie diet, that means you consume 500 calories on fast days. These calories should be consumed in a single meal
between noon and 2 p.m.
Researchers theorized that people who ate only 25% of their calorie requirements on fast days would compensate by binge-eating 175% of their needs on feed days. Surprisingly, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Participants in the study only ate slightly more than normal on feed days. What that means is that their bodies absorbed fewer calories over the two-day period. This type of energy restriction means that you can lose weight while still eating what you want half the time.
Alternate Day Fasting vs Conventional Dieting
The standard type of weight loss plan is caloric restriction (CR). CR is simply reducing the number of calories you consume every day. You usually have to restrict your calories by 25-40% to achieve noticeable results. As a weight loss tool, caloric restriction seems to make sense. Take in fewer calories than you consume every day, and you have to lose weight. It’s basic
A concern with traditional caloric restriction is adherence. People just don’t stick to it for very long. Generally, dieters are very good about rigorously following their meal plan for a couple of weeks. However, there’s a dramatic drop-off after the two month mark. Eight weeks seems to be about the limit that most people can endure daily calorie restriction. What’s more, your metabolism doesn’t keep chugging along despite running a deficit. It starts to conserve energy where it can, meaning that your metabolism slows dramatically, and weight loss slows to a halt.
For many, alternate day fasting is a more manageable option than conventional CR. With feed days never more than a day away, the fast days don’t seem quite so bad. On a traditional restrictive diet, you must exercise extreme self-control and deny yourself any treats, and that can leave you feeling defeated, depleted, and frustrated. With ADF, you know that you can eat
what you want tomorrow.
With this comforting knowledge, many people find alternate day fasting easier to stick to than conventional calorie restriction. In fact, studies have found that ADF has an adherence rate of about 87%. The first couple days are the hardest. Most people feel hungry during the first few days of the fast, but, eventually, their leptin and ghrelin levels stabilize and their metabolism adapts to the new schedule.
The Health Benefits of Alternate Day Fasting
Humans have known about the benefits of fasting for thousands of years, but conventional medicine has often ignored this knowledge. Fortunately, recent research now confirms much of what our ancestors already knew—fasting, when done correctly, can have a tremendously positive effect on the body.
Promotes Weight Loss
Multiple studies, both animal and human, have reported significant weight loss for ADF participants.
The results? An average loss of about 8% of total body weight over an eight week period and a measurable reduction in belly fat.
What’s more, ADF preserves muscle mass more effectively than conventional dieting. After a successful conventional diet, about 75% of weight loss comes from body fat; the remaining 25% is lost from lean muscle. With ADF, studies show that approximately 99% of lost weight is in the form of fat. This makes for a much healthier body composition after the fast is complete.
Improves Insulin and Blood-Glucose Levels
ADF may have beneficial effects for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Studies have found that ADF reduces blood glucose levels in animals and improves insulin sensitivity in humans.
Supports Heart Health
In animal testing, ADF was found to reduce heart rate, decrease blood pressure, and improve cholesterol levels. Further testing is necessary to determine
if these results are replicable in humans.
Both human and animal studies have found that ADF reduces occasional inflammation. The fast even selectively protects certain organs like the liver and endocrine tissues.
Cells become stronger if you put them under mild stress and allow them the time to recover from it. That’s essentially why exercise works. Exercise stresses muscle tissue, which then grows back stronger after recovery. “There is considerable similarity between how cells respond to the stress of exercise and how cells respond to intermittent fasting,” says Mark Mattson, senior investigator for the National Institute on Aging. Intermittent fasting has been confirmed to extend lifespan in animal studies, but more research is necessary to see if this benefit carries over to humans.
Making the Most of Your Fast
Alternate day fasting has many benefits, but it needs to be done the right way. You must still make healthy decisions. All forms of dieting work best when paired with exercise. ADF is no excuse to skip hitting the gym, so find an exercise regimen that works for you. Likewise, if you spend feed days eating toxic, processed food, your health will suffer. Make an effort to eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables and a reasonable amount of healthy fats.
Alternate Day Fasting Alternatives
While many people find the alternate day fast easier to follow than other dieting options, some may find it more difficult. In particular, frequent snackers and people who get irritable when they don’t eat regularly every few hours typically find the ADF difficult to adhere to. That’s perfectly fine. We are all unique individuals with different dietary needs, metabolisms, activity levels, and preferences. ADF is far from the only type of
fasting regimen. If you are interested in different types of fasts, ADF can also be an excellent introduction to fasting in general.
Which specific nutritional plan you follow is less important than the fact that you have a plan. There are many other types of diets and fasts (like the ketogenic fast), each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Find a nutrition plan that suits your body and make it part of your healthy lifestyle.
3) AROMATHERAPY AND COLOR THERAPY WORK IN HARMONY

Colors of flowers reflect the color of essential oils. As plants derive energy from the sun’s component rays which contain all the colors of a rainbow, they offer a special method of absorbing color vibrations into our system. Unlike synthetic substances, which have no vital force contained in them,
essential oils are filled with living, pulsating vibrations. This is why aromatherapy, like color therapy, forms a part of vibrational medicine.
Vibrational medicine is a form of medicine that uses the powerful vibrations of the electromagnetic spectrum. As I have been researching aromatherapy and color therapy for years I have learned how they both work harmoniously together and blend to create the desired effect.
To create a perfect blend of aromatherapy with the color vibration you can blend a complementary color pair such as yellow and violet, or pink and green. You can also use color as a guide to using essential oils, by mixing those with similar or complementary colors.
Subtle energy is produced by our body’s energy anatomy, also referred to as our subtle anatomy. The body is surrounded by a vibrational field that is commonly referred to as the aura. The aura is an
electromagnetic force field that surrounds all living things in both the animal and plant kingdom and interpenetrates the physical body. The force field shields and protects the body. Perhaps you can sometimes see a light around a person's head or you may sense somebody's mood. If so, you may be becoming aware of the human energy field that people call the Aura. The colors of the aura are a good indicator of the personality, health, and spirituality.
The aura is multicolored and flows and moves with you, changing color with your moods, feelings and spiritual condition.
Disease and illness are physical disorders which have their roots in being blocked or stuck in the energy flow of the body--or in some cases, too free a flow, most often in or near vital organs. The flow is blocked, or stuck, or unbalanced, as a result of thought, which eventually works through the physical body as a pain or as an organic disturbance of some kind.
This is the true nature of disease and illnesses and disorders to which humankind is prone.
The release of the healing powers within oneself depends upon this particular cleansing process which can be cleansed using aromatherapy and color therapy.
Essential oils are derived from grasses, buds, peels, branches, needles, bark, leaves, seeds, berries, flowers, roots, fruits, woods, herbs, spices.
Carriers, which carry the essential oils throughout the body and bloodstream are oils are derived from nuts, plants, fruit kernels, beeswax, flowers, flower seeds, fruit seeds, plant seeds, vegetables, and herbs. These have thicker consistency so that they can carry the essential oils throughout the body.
Aromatherapy promotes the health of body, peacefulness of mind, helps the negative emotions to rest and by working in conjunction with the olfactory system, helps a person
get in touch with their true selves. Essential oils are gaining acceptance as a leading choice in home care. Many chiropractors value essential oils with amazing results in chiropractic treatments. Scents that activate the brain’s emotional center and redefining psychology.
Practitioners of traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine have valued essential oils for thousands of years. More and more medical doctors are valuing the clinical benefits of essential oils.
Aromatherapy is now being used as an adjunct to core professions such as nursing, geriatrics, rehabilitation work, counseling, and physiotherapy.
Used with naturopaths, hospice, hospitals, Special Needs, working in the travel-leisure industry at spas, resorts, retreats and cruise ships, health centers. Aromatherapy is used in methods such as massage, sitz baths, compresses, baths, perfumes, infusions, facial care, hair care. They can be used by human
and animal alike. Do not use essential oils on cats or small animals.
The known physical and psychological effects of essential oils are often indicators of their subtle properties.
For example, rosemary promotes mental clarity and relieves mental fatigue. On a subtle level, rosemary has an affinity with the sixth energy center (Third Eye) and is used to promote clear thoughts and insight. On a physical level, juniper is cleansing and antiseptic. On a subtle level, it is used to cleanse a room of negativity, and to detoxify the subtle bodies.
Aromatherapy Patch Test
If you are unsure of how your skin will react to an essential oil, apply one drop of the oil to some carrier oil to the inside of your wrist or forearm. Check the spot for any itching, redness, burning or irritation after a few hours.
Or if needed to be applied before a massage a couple of minutes. If you
have very delicate skin and wish to be extremely careful, you can cover the spot with a Band-Aid and leave it for 24 hours. You could also use these same procedures for carriers.
Orange Skin Tonic
Put 16 drops of orange essential oil and 4 drops of neroli into ½ cup/4 fl. Oz/100 ml orange flower water. Use as a cleanser, as required. Do not use if pregnant. Do not go out into the sun for at least 72 hours.
Yellow/Violet Healing Balm for Acne and Spots
Mix two drops of lemon essential oil and one drop of lavender essential oil with 6 drops of evening primrose oil.
Spread onto the affected area morning and evening. Do not use if pregnant. Do not go out into the sun for at least 72 hours.
Violet Tonic for Blemished Skin
Put 12 drops of lavender into ½ cup/4 fl. Oz/100 ml of lavender water, and use to cleanse the affected area. Do not use if pregnant.
Yellow/Red Cellulite Bath Mix
Mix into 2 tablespoons/30 ml
Of Almond Oil 2 drops of lemon and one drop of sandalwood essential oil. Add to the bath as required.
White – Cajeput,
Red – Sandalwood
Orange – Orange, Mandarin, Cinnamon, Carrot Seed Oil, Neroli,
Gold – Patchouli
Yellow – Citronella, Lemongrass, Evening Primrose Oil, Lemon, Camphor.
Olive Green – Essential oils made from herbs, Himalaya Pine.
Emerald Green – Rosemary, Scotch Pine, Basil, Peppermint.
Pink – Geranium
Sapphire Blue – Myrrh, Tea Tree, Roman Chamomile
Royal Blue – German Chamomile
Violet – Violet, Rose, Rose Geranium, Lavender, Juniper
Deep Magenta – Frankincense, Clary Sage
