The long-term statistics about maintained weight loss are grim. Consistently, people who lose a substantial amount of weight are likely to gain it back within a few years. What are the folks who lose weight and successfully keep it off doing differently? The answer is simple. Research shows that long-term adherence to an effective weight loss strategy is what increases the outcome of successful dieting efforts. How can you do that? Here are a few tips.

1. Prepare Yourself for Success

Stock your kitchen with healthy organic foods so you only have the right options to begin with. Weight loss nutrition includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nonfat dairy, nuts, seeds, and fish or lean poultry. Plan meals in advance in order to avoid making unhealthy selections just because you are hungry and rushed. Make a shopping list so you enter the grocery store with a plan.

2. Eat Organic Fruits and Veggies

Those who keep the weight off typically eat more fruits and vegetables than dieters who have failed. The Harvard Nurses' Health Study examined the diets of 75,000 women over a ten-year period. Results showed that the more fruits and vegetables the women ate, the less likely they were to become obese.

3. Know Your Calories

Everyone can give the nutritional label a quick glance and fast evaluation of strengths and weaknesses but do you know exactly, or even approximately, how many calories you consume on a daily basis? Part of weight loss involves a simple math equation. The calories you expend must be greater than the calories you consume. If output doesn't exceed input, you won't lose weight. If you're not deliberately eating a set amount of calories, you may be accidentally eating too many.

It goes without saying that high calorie sodas and sugar-bomb snacks will sabotage your weight loss efforts. There is no healthy amount when it comes to this stuff and the best choice is to eliminate it from your diet and life entirely.

4. Get Support

Sticking to a plan is a lot easier when someone holds you accountable. Making changes with someone and providing mutual help and encouragement can be ultra helpful for the rough times. It's a lot easier when you have someone with whom you can share your experiences. Do you have friends who want to lose weight? Family members? Colleagues? It doesn't matter where you get support, as long as you have it. In fact, the University of Texas Medical School at Houston performed a study that examined the role an internet weight loss community had on its members. Researchers noted consistent communicative themes included testimonies, recognition for success, accountability, friendly competition, and humor. It was also noted that the online medium was convenient, relatively anonymous, and non-judgmental. The Internet weight loss community was found to play a positive and prominent role in the participant's efforts.

5. Stay Positive

Think positive thinking doesn't help? Think again. The Health Industry Development Institute in Korea performed a study showing that improving cognitive and behavioral components can improve situations that contribute to weight gain. No surprise on the results with this one, researchers found that persons with the ability to focus on task and complete things for themselves were the most successful at resisting food temptations and improving the situations that support weight loss. 

6. Stay Aware!

In a study involving subjects who had recently lost more than 10% of their body weight, the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple University set out to determine what factors contributed to people maintaining their healthy weight verses regaining what they lost. Researchers found that whether or not participants maintained a healthy weight was reliant on if they continued the strategies they used during the initial weight loss efforts. Continuing the strategies was paramount to maintaining a healthy body weight. Important habits included weighing themselves, examining the issue from a problem-solving standpoint, and positive thinking. Those who regained the weight had trouble consistently exercising and eating health. They were less accountable and had low motivation. These findings underscore the absolute necessity for you to always be awake at the wheel and aware! Losing the weight and then reverting back to auto pilot will guarantee you put the weight right back on.

7. Use Improving Your Body and Health as a Step to Improving Your Life

A Canadian study examined problems associated with confronting obesity, and there are many. Long-term efficacy of obesity treatments is poor, potentially due to the substantial barriers that undermine obesity management. Failing to recognize obesity as chronic is a huge problem and low socioeconomic status is common theme as well. This leads to time constraints, saboteurs, and a range of comorbidities. Furthermore, medications used to treat associated disorders may undermine weight-loss efforts.

Glutathione, also known as GSH, is a molecule found naturally in your body. Produced by the liver, glutathione is made up of three amino acids: L-cysteine, glycine, and L-glutamate. Glutathione is thought to offer antioxidanteffects, as well as stimulate the immune system. Proponents claim that glutathione supplements can help treat and prevent a number of health conditions.

Also available in certain foods (such as fruits and vegetables), glutathione is sold in dietary supplement form as well. Although glutathione plays a vital role in the body, oral glutathione supplements are digested to the three antioxidants, and the benefits are thought to be due from the L-cysteine.


Glutathione is said to protect against a wide range of health problems, including alcoholism, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, atherosclerosis, cataracts, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease, hepatitis, high cholesterol, liver disease, osteoarthritis, Lyme disease, and Parkinson's disease.

In addition, glutathione is purported to reverse the aging process, prevent cancer, and preserve memory.

Health Benefits 

Maintaining optimal levels of glutathione is essential to your health, according to a 2004 report published in the Journal of Nutrition. The report's authors note that glutathione plays a key role in antioxidant defense, the breakdown of nutrients, and regulation of many biological processes (including immune response). The authors also point out that glutathione deficiency contributes to oxidative stress, which in turn influences the development of many diseases (including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, cancer, heart attack, stroke, and diabetes).

While research on the use of glutathione supplements is fairly limited, there's some evidence that glutathione may offer certain benefits when taken in supplement form (but again, it could be due to the increase in L-cysteine as glutathione is digested into its amino acids). Here's a look at several key findings from the available studies:

Ulcerative Colitis

Inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis are characterized by oxidative stress, and glutathione is a key antioxidant in gastrointestinal tissue. Animal-based research suggests that glutathione supplementation may aid in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. In a 2003 study published in Digestive and Liver Disease, for instance, scientists discovered that glutathione supplementation significantly improved damage to the colon in rats with colitis.

Cardiovascular Health

In tests on rats, the authors of a 2001 study from the American Journal of Physiology found that a combination of glutathione supplementation and exercise training may help boost antioxidant capacity and protect against the oxidative damage and decrease in heart function caused by ischemia-reperfusion (the restoration of blood flow to an area that had previously experienced deficient blood flow).


Glutathione shows promise in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, suggests a small study published in Medical Science Monitor in 2011. For the study, 26 children (ages three to 13) with an autism spectrum disorder were assigned to eight weeks of treatment with either glutathione supplements or transdermal glutathione (a type of treatment that involves delivering active ingredients through the skin). Results showed that glutathione supplements helped increase participants' glutathione levels to some degree. The study's authors call for further research on the use of glutathione supplements and its potential to improve symptoms of autism spectrum disorders.


A number of personal-care products containing glutathione are marketed for their supposed skin-whitening effects. These products include soaps and creams. However, some people take glutathione supplements for skin-whitening. Although glutathione is often touted as a natural solution for whitening of the skin, there is no scientific support for this claim.

Intravenous Use and Injections

In some cases, healthcare professionals administer glutathione through use of an IV. When given intravenously, glutathione is typically used to treat conditions like Parkinson's disease, atherosclerosis, and diabetes. In addition, administering glutathione through an IV is sometimes used to treat the side effects of chemotherapy, hemodialysis treatment, and bypass surgery.

Healthcare professionals sometimes inject glutathione to protect against chemotherapy side effects or to treat infertility.

Side Effects

Due to a lack of research, little is known about the side effects of using glutathione supplements. However, there's some concern that the use of glutathione supplements may cause cramping and bloating. In addition, some people may experience allergic reactions to glutathione supplements (such as a rash).

Where to Find It

Widely available for purchase online, glutathione supplements and glutathione-containing personal-care products are sold in many natural-foods stores, drugstores, and stores specializing in dietary supplements.

Using It for Health Conditions

Any benefits of oral glutathione supplementation may be due to the increase in L-cysteine. Other supplements, such as N-acetylcysteine, may provide the L-cysteine needed to raise glutathione levels in the body in a less expensive way.

Due to a lack of supporting research, it's too soon to recommend glutathione for any health condition. If you're considering the use of glutathione for a condition, make sure to consult your physician before starting your supplement regimen. Self-treating a chronic condition and avoiding or delaying standard care may have serious consequences.

Both kale and apples help detoxify the liver, the bananas provide a smooth and rich consistency, and the homemade cashew milk simply makes this drink delicious.

Smoothie Ingredients:
2 cups kale (medium bunch),4 apples, quartered, cores removed,3 bananas, frozen,1/16 teaspoon stevia powder,2 cups homemade cashew milk.

Cashew milk ingredients:1 1/2 cups raw cashews,8 cups water,5 dates,1 tsp vanilla powder,1 tsp premium grade cinnamon powder,1/2 tsp nutmeg.


1. Blend all the cashew milk ingredients until smooth, and keep the blender running for another minute to achieve an extra smooth consistency.

2. Strain through a cheesecloth, nut milk bag or sieve.

3. Mix 2 cups of freshly made cashew milk with the rest of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

4. Serve immediately.

5. Store the remaining cashew milk in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Benefits of the main ingredients
