“The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” ~Hippocrates
IN THIS ISSUE:
1) IS ENERGY HEALING LEGIT OR BS? 2) DRY COUGH: 5 AYURVEDIC HOME REMEDIES TO TREAT COUGH AND SORE THROAT NATURALLY 3) MANY USES OF HONEY FOR BEAUTY
Dr Sarah Jane Perri, a multi-skilled expert on the power of energy healing believes the energy sceptics have got it all wrong. Whether you’re entirely convinced negative energy is eroding your health and well-being or are leaning more on the side of the sceptics, the entire concert of energy healing is certainly one that generates discussion. From crystals to Reiki, energy healing has fast developed into quite a lucrative market, but how legitimate is the whole thing? Eastern medicine has embraced the potential of energy work for centuries, but the same level of recognition is yet to be unlocked here in the West. With energy playing such a crucial role in our spiritual health, a major pillar in our overall well-being, why are so many people unwilling to allow their skepticism to evolve? Felicity Harley, host of the Healthy-ish and Extra Healthy-ish podcasts, dives into the world of energy healing with Dr Sarah Jane Perri, a chiropractor, yoga and mediation teacher, and the founder of Spinal Energetics. What is energy healing?
“Energy is something that we're still not really grasping here in the West,” she explains. “In Asian countries, it's definitely something that's just considered the norm: the mind body, the spirit are all part of an energetic frequency, just as you and I are.” When it comes to pinpointing what energy actually is, Dr Perri says any scientist or energy healer alike will tell you the same thing, that our entire being is made up of molecular iterations of energy. “Look up anything from Tesla to Einstein,” says the energy expert. “There's been discussions about energy for many, many years, it's not something new.” “We can blend different approaches, philosophies, as well as different ideas and approaches to health, which is individualized. And I think that's the most important thing. What works for one person may not work for another,” explains Dr Perri on her unique approach to energy work, drawing on a combination of Western and Eastern teachings.
Working on the idea that our bodies retain memories from lived experiences, Dr Perri’s energy work approach is guided by attempts to release patterns of energy tension in the system that are no longer serving us. “If you're overexposed in a chronic stress way for too long, the system, starts generalizing everything as a threat,” explains Dr Perri. “And that's why we're having trouble sleeping, we're having trouble with our guts and our digestion. These are all nervous system responses to being in survival mode for just way too long.” “I think bridging the gap on both the West and the East is something really important, and by bridging the two, we actually have so much more access to true health,” adds the energy expert. “Not just physical health, not just mental health, but the whole holistic approach as a person.”
When it comes to the sceptics’ criticism of her field, Dr Perry’s response is simple. She has devoted her career to exploring the power of energy work after experiencing the impact firsthand, sharing that the tangible movement of energy she felt after undergoing sessions was unlike anything she had ever encountered in Western medicine. But while her own energy transformation was immensely felt, the lack of tangibility of energy work for others still encourages skepticism of the wider practice. “A lot of people in terms of energy work, they either believe in it or they don't believe in it, which is quite interesting considering it's in the health and wellness space. No one says, Do you believe in the dentist?” Says Dr Perri. “We know more about the Kardashians than we do our own bodies, that's where our culture is focused upon,” says the energy expert. “Instead of knowing ourselves, we know more about others.” On the minimal scientific support behind energy work in the West, she says a recent spike in society’s interest is bound to have a positive impact on the practice’s legitimacy. “Once we have a question, once they want to hypothesized something, then we bring science in. So I think now that we're getting more interest into the field of energy, we're going to get some more scientific interest,” explains Dr Perri.
According to Dr Perri, the way most of us live our lives day to day is not conducive to a rich energetic system. Her Melbourne-based practice aims to offer energy work that assists with unwinding her clients’ hyper or tense energy states without requiring daily sessions. But as a whole, the chiropractor-turned-energy master says there are simple lifestyle habits we can incorporate into our regular routines to promote better mindfulness and connection between the physical and spiritual senses. “Doing energy work, doing yoga, doing meditation, doing breath work, doing all these different things that make you discover things about yourself and your body and the power of the
body,” says Dr Perri. “You've really got to be your own advocate in terms of your health and wellness and really take charge of learning as much as you can to really understand the system you're in and the system you are.”

You don’t have to go far to banish most of your beauty concerns. Solutions can be found just a few steps away in your pantry. Centuries before cosmetics and chemicals took over, the Egyptians and Greeks discovered honey was an incredible ingredient for the overall external and internal health of the body. Honey is produced naturally by enzyme activity, plant matter, and live bacteria coming together to create a powerful ingredient that has hundreds of uses. This makes it especially valuable for cosmetic uses, such as cleansing, clearing acne, healing scars, and evening out skin tone. Raw, unpasteurized honey has the best potential for beauty purposes. Here are some beauty tips on how honey can be applied: Moisturizer: Honey is an ingredient found in lots of beauty products because it deeply moisturizes the skin from deep within. The enzymes present in honey enable it to seep into the skin whilst conditioning and softening from within. For using honey as a moisturizing mask: Use one spoon of honey on clean, dry skin, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. It will serve as a perfect moisturizing mask. Pore cleanser: Honey can be used to cleanse pores and get rid of those pesky blackheads. Since honey contains antioxidants, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties, it will help rid your skin of blackheads by removing dirt from your pores. It then hydrates and tightens skin pores for a clearer complexion. For using honey as a pore cleanser: Mix one spoon of raw honey with two spoons of coconut oil and apply to clean, dry skin. Massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area. Then rinse with cold water. Exfoliator: Chemical exfoliators can cause your skin to go red and cause irritation. Honey will help exfoliate your face and skin by gently removing the dead skin cells leaving a brighter complexion. For using honey as an exfoliator: Mix two spoons of honey with one spoon baking soda. Splash your skin with water, and then gently rub the concoction on your face or body in a circular motion. Rinse well. Lighten scars: Honey is a natural moisturizer that will keep your skin soft and healthy and ensure less scarring. It will minimize inflammation thereby helping to heal skin faster. The anti-oxidants present in honey help repair damaged skin. For using honey to lighten scars: Mix one spoon of raw honey with one spoon coconut oil or olive oil. Apply to the affected area, and massage with the tips of your fingers in a circular motion for one to two minutes. Place a hot washcloth over your skin, and let sit until cool. Repeat daily. Honey is a super product with tremendous beneficial properties. It’s nature’s gift that keeps on giving.
