1) 6 EASY WAYS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR AURA
By Nikki Harper, Wake Up World

If you’re feeling tired, drained, depressed or demotivated, it could well be that your aura needs a bit of a boost. Your aura is made up of the vibrations of your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy, and it is constantly fluctuating. Over time, through circumstances or by being around others, some of life’s negativity works its way into your energies, and this will eventually have a cumulative effect on your life, and on your spiritual development.

1. Think Positive

Our thoughts both reflect and create our realities. It sound cliché, but making an effort to think more positive thoughts really can attract more positive energies into your aura and into your life. Even when you’re going through a difficult time, you can use daily affirmations or mantras to convince yourself that the situation is more positive. Seek to find the good in everything and everyone around you, and perhaps begin to keep a gratitude journal so that you don’t miss all the good things in your life while you’re concentrating on the bad.

2. Mingle with the Elements

Being outdoors often is very important for a healthy aura – we humans were not designed to be shielded from the elements! Sunshine and daylight are vital for our physical health, in terms of vitamin D intake, and for our mental health too. Take time to engage with all of the elements. Walk barefoot and dig your toes into the earth, or build sandcastles or mud pies to reconnect with earth. Sit in the rain and be cleansed by the power of water. Walk in the breeze or fly a kite to absorb some air energy into your aura, and enjoy a fire pit to soak up the powerful energy of fire.

3. Carry a Crystal

There are hundreds of different types of crystal, each with their own benefits for us. In terms of strengthening your aura, however, the two most useful crystals are clear quartz and smoky quartz. Wearing or carrying clear quartz will help to energize and invigorate your aura, lifting tiredness and renewing optimism. Smoky quartz is useful to keep in your pocket or your bag as it absorbs negativity and sadness, helping to drain these less than helpful energies from your aura. However, be mindful of where your crystals come from.

4. Laugh a Lot

The healing power of laughter is not a myth – you probably know how when someone makes you laugh it provides an instant mood boost. Making a conscious effort to bring more laughter into your life is a great way to strengthen your aura. Watch your favorite comedy shows, or get together with good friends on a regular basis. Be playful and don’t be afraid to let your inner child have a good time.

5. Smudge Your Space

Smudge sticks are an essential tool in the spiritual home. These tightly wrapped bundles of sage are lit and then gently smolder, giving off a cleansing smoke. Use one to cleanse your home regularly, but you can also waft it in a spiral fashion around your body, from your head to your toes, to “bounce out” less than helpful energies from your aura. It helps if you can get a friend to do this for you while you stand still with your eyes closed – you will feel a difference.

6. Visualize Purity

Regular meditation helps to maintain a strong aura, as it calms and settles negative emotions. However, even if you find meditation difficult, you can do a simple creative visualization exercise which will have a similar effect. Simply close your eyes and sit calmly, and then imagine a pure white light entering the top of your head. Feel it move down your body, and out through your feet, down into the ground. This only takes a minute or two and done regularly, can help to keep a vibrant and strong aura around you at all times.

2) 5 BENEFITS OF ALMOND OIL FOR HAIR
By Andrea Jordan

You might regard almonds as a nutrient-rich nut that make a healthy snack option and a yummy dairy-free milk alternative. But did you know that almonds can also work wonders for your hair? Yes, just as almonds provide nutrition and health benefits to our diets, they are full of health benefits for our strands, too.

When it comes to hair care, this underrated oil is often out-shined by more popular options like argan and coconut. But the truth is, almond oil is packed with hair-healthy nutrients that work for practically every hair type. And chances are, almond oil is likely one of the ingredients in your favorite hair products.

What is almond oil?

Almond oil is exactly what you think—it's the oil that has been extracted from almonds. And just like the almonds itself, the extracted oil is chock-full of nutrients: It's full of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, magnesium and phospholipids. When applied to the hair, almond oil helps strengthen, soften, hydrate and smooth the hair, making it the do-it-all oil your hair routine has been missing.

Why it's good for the hair?

Unlike other ingredients, almond oil addresses nearly every hair concern out there. And while there aren't tons of studies on the hair-healthy oil, there are plenty of experts that consider it a go-to for healthy, strong strands:

1. Deep conditions.

No matter what type of hair you have (thin, thick, curly, or straight), deep conditioning is a must in a healthy hair routine. Not only does it help to repair and rebuild already existing damage, but it also restores moisture and elasticity in the hair (which makes all the difference when styling) thanks to the omega-fatty acids. Celebrity hairstylist Sophia Porter reaches for almond oil as a mask after heavy sun exposure or use of hot tools to help restore and nourish the hair.

2. Softens hair.

Almond oil also acts as an emollient when applied to the hair (and skin). If you're not familiar with emollients, their main purpose is to soften and soothe. And let's be honest, softer hair is a goal for all of us. "Because of the high amount of vitamin E, almond oil fills in small breaks in the hair shaft at a cellular level," Porter says. "This helps the hair to soften." And like most hair treatments, the more consistent your usage, the better your results will be. Over time, almond oil helps soften the hair, which makes a significant difference when de-tangling and styling your hair.

3. Fights frizz.

If you have textured hair, you already know the importance of sealing in moisture. If moisture is sealed into the hair cuticle, it doesn't escape, which means your hair will feel and look more hydrated without being weighed down by heavy styling products. It also makes a significant difference when it comes to fighting frizz. Let me explain. For most of us, frizz happens when the hair follicles are raised, which allows moisture to pass through and expand the strands. Other times frizz is the result if damaged or extremely parched strands. Almond oil is a great sealing oil that helps lock moisture into the hair so it doesn't seep out. The results: a smoother strand.

4. Aids in hair growth.

Shab Reslan, trichologist and hair health expert at Hair Club, believes almond oil has all the properties needed to promote healthy hair growth. "Omega-3 fatty acids are required for healthy hair growth and a lack of magnesium is linked to hair loss in both men and women," she says. And when almond oil is applied directly to the scalp, it contains essential nutrients for better hair growth. One study even shows that applying almond oil to the scalp can help reverse hair loss, although more research is needed before we can consider the oil a hair loss remedy.

5. Soothes scalp inflammation.

Whether you're experiencing itchiness, redness, or dandruff on your scalp, applying almond oil directly to the scalp can help reduce inflammation. Since the natural oil has anti-inflammatory properties, it can help to reduce scalp irritation and even improve blood circulation. Not to mention, emollients like almond oil are often used to help soothe and soften scalp conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and even dandruff.

Who should use it?

For fine and oily hair, you'll want to use this hydrating oil sparingly. Porter also warns about using almond oil if your hair lacks protein. "Since almond oil is good for sealing in hydration, this isn't helpful for people whose strands are protein deficient as this could lead to over-hydration," she says. And if you have nut allergies, you'll want to avoid almond oil altogether.

How to use it?

Like most hair oils, how you incorporate it into your hair routine is dependent on your hair type and hair concerns. Porter suggests using it as a pre-shampoo treatment on the ends or scalp, but it's important to thoroughly wash it out, or you may find your hair is weighed down and greasy after a few days.

If your strands need a little TLC, try using almond oil as a deep treatment. Apply it to the hair alone, or whip up a DIY treatment by mixing it with other oils like lemon oil to help balance the scalp or chamomile oil for relieving itch. If you find that oils generally weigh your hair down, apply the mask on the scalp alone. Sometimes residue buildup from heavy products like oils can cause strands to become dry and dull if not washed off properly.

No matter how you choose to use almond oil in your hair routine, just remember to avoid using it before styling, especially when using hot tools. This isn't one of those treatments you want to leave sitting in your hair for hours at a time. Opt for 20 to 30 minutes tops or a simple scalp massage for best results.

The takeaway.

Almond oil might just be the hair-healthy addition your strands have been missing. From nourishing to strengthening and packed with nutrients, there isn't much this oil can't do for strong, soft hair. Consider it top of our list for all-natural hair oils, right beside superstars like jojoba and argan.

3) CELEBRATE CELERY: THE HEALTH BENEFITS WILL SURPRISE YOU
By Lori Zanteson, Environmental Nutrition Newsletter

Celery is an excellent source of vitamins and nutrients that contribute to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity and the lowering of blood glucose and cholesterol.

Celery has hit celeb status in the veggie world.

No longer the passed-over crudite, or mere Bloody Mary stirring stick, celery is a social media phenom, so wildly popular, it’s selling out in stores. Credit celery juice for the trending promises of everything from weight loss and mental clarity to disease cure.

The folklore

Historically, celery, which traces back to the Mediterranean 1,000 B.C.E., has been used medicinally (digestion, colds, water retention) by the ancients, as awards for Greek athletes, and as food. Hype aside, celery is a nutrient and antioxidant-rich, low-calorie vegetable with research-based health benefits.

The facts

Kin to parsley, carrots, dill and cilantro, the type of celery (Apium graveolens var. dulce) most common in the U.S. belongs to the Pascal family, with large, firm stalks that are pale to deeper green and leafy ends.

There are several varieties in different hues (shades of gold and red), stalk size and tenderness, and flavor. Celery root, or celeriac (var. rapaceum) and smallage, or Chinese celery (var. secalinum), are closely related to celery. With just 18 calories, one serving (about two medium stalks) of celery packs 40% DV (Daily Value, based on 2,000 calories/day) of bone-protective vitamin K and 10% DV of vitamin A, which supports eye health.

The findings

A rich source of several antioxidant plant compounds, like caffeic acid, apigenin and kaempferol, celery is an active protector against free radicals. The diversity of these compounds has synergistic healing abilities (Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2017). In addition, celery is an excellent source of vitamins and nutrients that contribute to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity, and the lowering of blood glucose and cholesterol (Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, 2018).

The finer points

Select celery that is firm, crisp, with tight stalks, no blemishes, and pale to bright green healthy-looking leaves. Organically grown celery is best to reduce exposure to contaminants such as pesticides.

Store unwashed stalks in airtight plastic bags where they’ll keep fresh and retain beneficial plant compounds for a week. To prepare, cut off the base and leaves and rinse under running water.Cut, chopped or diced stalks enliven tuna and chicken salad, green and fruit salads — try the classic Waldorf salad — and they are terrific in savory stuffing, soup and chowder. And don’t forget the highly nutritious leaves — they make wonderful pesto and are a clever green garnish to most any dish.
