“The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” ~Hippocrates

by Sarah Lozanova

Nearly two-thirds of all Americans take prescription drugs, with the average person takes four prescription drugs. Prescription drug use has skyrocketed in the last couple of decades. Unfortunately, some medications do more harm than good while others are unnecessary. Typically, pharmaceuticals treat the symptom rather than the root cause and create environmental contamination and waste.

A 2002 study of 139 rivers in 30 states found that 80 percent contained traces of pharmaceuticals, steroids, and hormones. These drugs can end up in our drinking water. Treated wastewater is commonly used to irrigate agricultural crops, leading to pharmaceutical contamination of cropland. Lack of government policies to safeguard the environment means that this issue is likely to continue. Although there are many benefits to prescription drugs, there are often undesirable side effects.

Many traditional healing techniques help heal the body without pharmaceuticals. There are many ways to prevent illness and allow our bodies to heal naturally. In many cases, a culmination of approaches promotes overall health. Let’s explore how to get started.

Get Adequate Sleep

Getting enough rest is paramount for healing. Sleep allows our bodies and minds to truly recharge and rejuvenate. Researchers have linked sleep deprivation with numerous ailments including a weakened immune system, obesity, diabetes, mood issues, high blood pressure, memory problems, heart disease, and poor balance.

In 1910, most people slept 9 hours per night. Now, 40 percent of adults in the United States report getting less than six hours each night. About 30 to 40 percent of people in the United State report experiencing insomnia each year. The trend of inadequate sleep seems to be increasing over time. Although many of us are aware of the importance of sleep, we just don’t get enough of it. Creating a sleep routine, having a positive sleep environment, and avoiding electronics before sleep are all helpful strategies.

Stay Hydrated

Many of us are chronically dehydrated, often without realizing it. Drinking sufficient fluids is crucial for the immune system, detoxification, and overall energy. “Sixty percent of our bodies is composed of water, 75 percent in our muscles, 85 percent in our brains, it’s like oil to a machine,” explained Dr. Roberta Lee.

Establishing healthy routines can help us stay hydrated. For example, get in the habit of drinking a glass of water shortly after waking up and 30 minutes before each meal.

Promote Self Care

There are many practices that help nourish our minds and spirits. Exposure to sunshine, eating a balanced diet, exercise, and fresh air are all helpful for optimum health. Make self-care easy by incorporating healthy behaviors into your daily routine. For example, keep a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in your home so it is easier to eat an abundance of them.

Nourish a Positive Mental State

Because there is a deep connection between the body and mind, there is a psychological component to health. Our emotions and thought patterns contribute to imbalances in the physical body.

Attitudes and persistent thoughts can hinder physical healing. This is because different mental states influence biological factors in our bodies.

Positive, uplifting, and inspirational thoughts create harmony in the body. In fact, by helping others, we can also help ourselves on various levels. To improve your mental state, exercise, participate in fulfilling activities such as hobbies and nourish close relationships with family and friends. Different regenerative activities may resonate with different people. Some people find yoga and meditation restorative while others may prefer walks in nature, socializing, dancing, or playing a musical instrument.

Seek Natural Healers

If you have reached a hurdle in achieving optimum health, there are many providers that can help. Acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathic medicine, creative visualization, physical therapy, massage therapy, spiritual counseling, Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, chiropractic care, and herbal medicine are all options.

For thousands of years, many traditions throughout the world have practiced herbal medicine. Different plants display various properties and are used to create the desired effect. Many healing herbs that we can find in our yards and neighborhood parks can help boost the immune system, treat wounds, or ward off a particular ailment. This approach often involves making teas, salves, poultices, tinctures, powder, or capsules.

It is important to find ways to engage your body’s natural healing abilities. Some techniques and healers will appeal to you more than others. Take the time to find what works best for you.

Energy Healing For Everyone:Heal With Your Mind

by Sukriti Shahi

If you’ve suddenly started noticing how your lips don’t look as healthy as when you were a kid, don’t start panicking. It doesn’t happen suddenly but gradually and unless it’s anything genetic, there is nothing to worry about. Usually, lifestyle and diet pattern impact the healthy pink colour of the lips. Additionally, if you smoke, your lips are darker than those who don’t.

Darkening of lips happen because of hyperpigmentation which is caused by excess of melanin in the skin. It’s usually harmless but just not good to look at. Pollution and improper lip care routine and chemicals in some of the cosmetics also contribute to dark lips. No matter what the reason is, the truth is, dark and pigmented lips look unflattering. Lack of hydration and lip sucking could also result in pigmented lips. Lips skin is twice as sensitive from that of the face and thus need remedies that are supremely gentle. There are some easy and natural remedies that can help you get rid of lip darkness with utmost care. These remedies will prevent further discolouration and also help decrease the darkness but gradually.

Lemon And Sugar For Darker Lips

Studies suggest that citrus fruit’s peel can be an effective melanin inhibitor. You can either take lemon wedge or orange peel for this remedy. Every night just rub a lemon piece or piece of orange peel on your lips and wash it with water the next morning. You can also dip lemon wedge in sugar and gently rub it on your lips. Sugar granules are the most natural scrub ingredient you can trust. For orange people, you can even dry it in sun, grind it to coarse powder and mix it with honey to make a natural lip scrub. It will take off the dead skin and unveil pinkish- and healthier-looking lips.

Baking Soda For Pigmented Lips

Baking soda is considered as one of the most effective and natural bleaching agent. It won’t bleach your lips literally but help lighten the dark colour. All you have to do is mix the equal portion of baking soda and water and rub the paste on your lips in circular motion. Repeat this every five days for better and quick visible results.

Almond Oil And Sugar For Lip Discolouration

This natural mixture works as a potent scrub and mask for the skin. Sugar in this remedy helps exfoliate lips to take off the dead and dark skin. On the other hand, almond oil is the perfect gentle lip hydrator that can quench lips thirst. This remedy also prevents lips from further damage. Massage your lips with almond oil and sugar every night before going to bed.

Rose Water And Honey For Dark And Pigmented Lips

Rose water has skin soothing, hydrating and healing properties. It’s also beneficial for giving lips their natural pink tint that gets lost after discolouration. Honey’s thick concentration make it one of the most natural lip balms that you can use on your lips. Mixing these two ingredients will give lips extra care and treat discolouration by penetrating deep into lips sensitive skin and targeting the cells. Do it twice a day if possible as it’s gently on lips.

Ancient Chinese Remedy Heals Many Ailments

As you may be aware, there are several types of meditation. But you may not exactly know what these are. In this article, we’ll cover 7 of the common, simplest types of meditation.

1. Breath Awareness Meditation

Breath awareness meditation is a type of meditation that encourages mindful breathing.

The goal is to focus on breath alone. Practitioners will often breathe slowly. They can also focus on their breaths without counting.

Focusing on breath and ignoring other thoughts that come to mind is the only goal. However, it’s not as simple as it sounds.

Once you try breath awareness meditation…
…you might find that your mind will be full of unwanted and distracting thoughts. The only thing you can do to help yourself is to count your breathing. As you inhale, count 1, as you exhale, count 2. Or a full inhalation and exhalation count as 1. Up to you.

Benefits include greater relaxation, reduced anxiety, improved concentration, and emotional stability.

2. Body Scan or Progressive Relaxation

During body scan meditation, practitioners will start relaxing their whole body. From their head down to their feet, or from their feet up to their head.

They can either visualize a wave of relaxation drifting through their body. Or tense and relax each part one by one. This is called body scan because you will mentally, in a progressive manner, scan for tension on your body. And the goal is to release every tension present.

Benefits include relaxation and calmness throughout the body. It may also help with chronic pain. It can also help people to fall asleep.

3. Mindfulness Meditation

This might be the most common type of meditation. Practitioners need to stay in a state of awareness and presence.

The challenge here is to keep your mind in the present moment. Rather than dwelling on the past and worrying about the future.

The absence of judgment is important. Sitting still for 10 minutes or more, and just staying present at the moment can be difficult. So practitioners should practice it with patience and without judgment.

This can be done through a combination of body scanning, breathing, and just stillness.

Aside from meditation sessions, practitioners can practice mindfulness by minding the surroundings. This can be done when waiting in queues. Or when waiting for someone for a long time.

Benefits include emotional stability, making impulsive emotional reactions less often. It also improves focus and memory.

Surprisingly, mindfulness meditation can also lower blood pressure.

4. Loving–Kindness Meditation

The goal of this is to cultivate feelings of loving-kindness towards everything. Even the people that stress you out, your goal is to feel that loving–kindness towards them too.

While meditating, practitioners open their mind to feeling loving kindness. Mostly coming from the heart, soak yourself with the feeling of loving kindness. This type of meditation is designed to make yourself used to the feeling of love and compassion.

If you are affected by hatred, interpersonal issues, anger, and resentment… …you should try to practice loving-kindness meditation.

5. Zen Meditation

In this type of meditation, you find a comfortable position. Then focus on posture and observe your thoughts without judgment.

This form of meditation can be a part of Buddhist practice. And usually done under a supervision of a teacher.

It is similar to mindfulness meditation but Zen meditation requires more discipline. Again, benefits are similar to the ones stated above.

6. Kundalini Yoga

This meditation is a combination of deep breathing, mantras, and physical poses.   Practitioners can also learn this from a teacher, but one can study the poses on their own.

It has the same benefits as the types of meditation above and it can also improve your physical strength.

7. Transcendental Meditation

I listed this last because I think this is the most complicated of the 7. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try and practice this.

The goal is to make practitioners transcend beyond their current state of being.   And because of the complications of this practice  it is also advisable to study under a teacher.

And as I’ve said above, I tried to sort this from the simplest to the most complicated. But that since there are a lot of factors, you might have a different opinion, and that’s fine.

I hope I was able to make sense of the 7 common types of meditation, and their differences.
